I done it [Nov. 25th, 2007|06:57 pm]

I wrote a 50,000 word story, and it's finished.

No you can't read it. It's painful. :) I've put the shortest chapter up as an excerpt though.

Writey writingness [Nov. 24th, 2007|02:26 pm]

Sorry if i am rare online this weekend but i'm trying to get the last 10000 words of this novel written. I've passed the 40,000 word mark, i've got the end of the story written, and what's making it slow going is that i'm taking the time to make sure i've got everything straight so i don't end up contradicting myself as i write from roughly word number 34,000 to word number 44,000. As long as i live and breathe that book for another ten thousand words this weekend, i'll be set.

Not long to go now then! I might even post a carefully chosen excerpt on the site for those i'm not going to show the NaNoWriMo version of the story to.

The story [Nov. 22nd, 2007|10:39 pm]

So i jumped way ahead in the story the other night and decided to build it up towards an ending. Then for some reason yWriter lost my ending. So i rewrote it, except i realised i didn't like it so i made it a dream sequence before going for a slight rework of the ending with a different character. It works so much better now, and my word count is ahead of target again, and i've got some more character development to do on one particular character that'll bring a lot of potential for conflict too. Plus after the end of the story is done, it's pretty much just a case of taking 10000 words or so to make all hell break loose (one or characters to boomerang back to in a variety of circumstances) and i've got enough things to set up by the end of the book that it should be easy. Even still, 10000 words is only about a weekend's worth of writing, if that.

So yeah, short of some major inspirational meltdown or other catastrophe, i'm going to have a novel by the end of the month. This is awesome. :)

(And yes, i'm backing up regularly now.) Bonus: Link to my wordcount; i'm up over 37 000 words now. :D

Nanowrimo update.. [Nov. 17th, 2007|09:40 pm]

So i've cracked 30000 words..

Also i find it very very funny that just as this very popular and regularly updated furry comic sets up a sex scene, it suddenly ceases being drawn because the artist is too busy with cons and so forth to keep doing it.

Woke up after reading 'Programming Perl' again.. [Nov. 17th, 2007|02:15 pm]

..unnhh fugg'n sub wakeup { yawn; }; grep ($_ ~= m/dreams/) @stuff_in_brain == 0; # aww; $ENV{'place'} == 'bed'; if (human_hours(`time`) < (0800) roll_over; ponder(@stuff_in_brain) );

etc

Also i have until the end of the weekend to get past 30000 words to stay on track with NaNoWriMo - that's 4353 words to write and change.

NaNoWriMo [Nov. 11th, 2007|09:21 pm]

[Current Location |home]

So i've been playing catchup for a week when i haven't really done much writing of novels. Just this weekend, i managed to push ahead of 19000 words up from 8000, and get a bunch of washing and shopping done. This novel's turning out pretty cool, to be honest. It's not the best-written thing in the world but i'm liking some of the ideas in it a lot. :)

The object is of course to write a full 50,000 words by the end of November. You can track my progress here if you absolutely must.

Creative stuff [Nov. 3rd, 2007|11:54 pm]

Music? Not really. Art? Hardly. But three days into NaNoWriMo and i'm around 6500 words into a very rambly dialogue-heavy novel called The unfixed eye. Right now i'm padding it out with mouthpiecey characters until i decide on something like a plot, or at least a direction to move the main character towards. Buddha's going to show up later having an argument with God. Already i'm pretty sure the events of Chapter 2 (and probably a few more chapters after chapter 2) occur before Chapter 1. Or maybe they're some sort of loop. I don't know. The character (and hence the reader) will almost certainly have lost touch with reality by the end of it all.

I like my new camera. It's nifty neat. Also i am trying to learn Finnish, so if i say hoover piever at you the correct response is piever piever. Yes there is a Finnish character in the novel; his name is Jussi and he's an irritating nerd.

Also i don't want to see any Red Bull Air Race without [info]atpaw so i'm not going this year.
