So while we were at the pizzameet last night, we got chatting and the question was asked: how did you discover the furries? Some of the first contact stories were dead interesting: being interested in a specific animal which led to discovering an image of them drawn anthro inamongst a larger collection; getting led to various different MUCKs by members of other online groups who also happened to be furries; finding a video of the Anthrocon fursuit parade; finding Robin Hood porn and investigating further! So since furries love nothing better than talking about themselves, what was your first contact moment with the community? Bonus points if it happened without the Internet.

Yeah, i bought an EeePC 901. It's fun. I am calling it Pikinini. GoatTracker (a SID emulator) uses less than 3% CPU. Buze routinely uses heaps more doing seemingly much less. Foo.

The Mojave Experiment seems to be Microsoft's first wave of fightback against all the bad press that Vista's getting, and very sneaky it is: they ask people about Vista, people rain hate on it and give it an average score of 4.5. Then they demo them a new Windows version called Mojave. People are impressed. They give 8.5 on average. Then the interviewer tells the impressed people that Mojave's actually just Vista. Cue shocked looks. (Not that i'm upgrading to Vista anytime myself because WinXP's at that critical junction between leanness and compatibility for me. And i need a quad core CPU before i need a new OS.)

SpaceX	[Aug. 3rd, 2008\|08:12 pm]
Was watching SpaceX try to get one of their Falcon1 rockets out into space earlier today — they had a malfunction with the separation stage and it all went pear-shaped. :( Still, it was magic to see the Earth receding underneath the rocket even if the Earth's curvature was never visible. Luckily, here's one they prepared earlier (WMV).

Bought more music gear - a CME UF7 to be precise, a Chinese brushed aluminium 76-note MIDI controller. It's fucking heavy, fucking gigantic and the USB MIDI doesn't work, but it's spiffy all the same. Pics to follow later.
